Clinical Supervision
One of my favorite roles as a mental health professional is providing supervision to graduate students and/or new professionals. With professional licenses in psychology and clinical social work I have provided supervision to diverse clinicians. Presently, I am open to providing clinical supervision to professionals working toward licensure at the LSCW-Provisional level. My experience as a therapist has included clinical rotations in a number of settings, including outpatient clinics, intensive outpatient substance abuse programs, and inpatient psychiatric units/hospitals. As such, I possess clinical expertise in working with a diverse range of presenting concerns and diagnoses, including severe and persistent mental illness, substance abuse/dependence conditions, and general mental health concerns. Finally, I believe I am culturally competent with diverse supervise backgrounds and worldviews and remain current on empirically supported treatment interventions.
I approach clinical supervision similar to individual therapy in terms of building a relationship and learning more about my supervisee's approach and worldview. Those who I have supervised have described me as kind, a good listener, and skilled in teaching. As a supervisor I try to support supervisee's development of authenticity and genuiness as therapists to others. I am good at identifying things that are done well in therapy and provide constructive feedback when I notice things that affect client well being, which included special emphasis on professional ethics. Ultimately, I want a supervisee to know that I view clinical supervision as a journey for a professional and one that must be taken mindfully by supervisor and supervisee.
Professional Consulting
A final service I provide includes professional consulting to organizations addressing concerns that affect boys and men. More specifically, I've conducted research on men's issues, published articles on concerns related to men's lives, and have extensive experience providing workshops and therapy groups with boys and men.
An organization I've recently worked with as a consultant was Men In Balance, which is a non-profit organization in Greensboro, NC that offers workshops and programs for diverse men. A representative from this organization offered the following statement to describe my work as a professional consultant:
